Everything you need to install and use AltForge — from your first setting to bulk generation. No API key to create, on either plan.
A new Settings > AltForge menu appears in your dashboard. It's already working at this point — no API key or AI provider account to create.
Nothing is required to get started. Two optional settings if you want to customize things:
Automatic generation: every time you upload a new image to your media library, AltForge generates alt text if the image doesn't already have any. An image that already has alt text is never modified.
Media library scan: the "Scan my media library" button (in settings) scans all your existing images and shows how many are missing alt text.
Bulk generation: automatically processes every image found by the scan, instead of fixing them one by one — included in both the free and Pro plans.
| Feature | Free | Pro |
|---|---|---|
| Automatic generation on upload | 50 / month | Unlimited |
| Bulk generation (existing images) | ✓ (within the 50/month) | ✓ (unlimited) |
| AI model | Standard | Higher-quality |
| Setup required | None | None |
The free quota resets automatically on the 1st of every month.
| Symptom | Likely cause |
|---|---|
| Alt text stays empty after upload | Monthly quota reached (check the notice in your WordPress dashboard), or "Automatic generation" unchecked |
| Text comes back in the wrong language | Fix the "Generation language" field in settings |
| Nothing happens on an existing image | Expected: automatic generation only applies to new uploads. Use "Scan my media library" to process existing images in bulk |
From Settings > AltForge, click "Upgrade to Pro — unlimited generations". Payment and license management are handled securely by Freemius; still no API key to configure.
